FINAL REFLECTION

In this second part of the course we have worked on some new resources, many of them very important for our digital competence in the classroom. Let me mention what I think that has been more important:

Interactive whiteboard:
We have worked on interactive whiteboard, a part of the subject that I think it is very important, as we will probably use them in the future. We learnt some ideas about it, and what it is more important, we have used them. This has been vital, because this kind of technology is very concrete, and we wouldn´t have learnt so much hadn´t we used them in reality.


Dropbox:
We have talked about some options of Dropbox, but I think this wasn´t much important, as we all use Dropbox regularly, so we already had a good background of it.

Podomatic:
We have learnt to create podcasts, and we did create one short class with audio through podcast. I think this will be very useful for us in the future, especially on english classes, where listening is so important.

Skype:
This is another program we have worked on, which I think it was not very important to deal with, because almost everybody use it regularly in his real life. In my personal case, I work with Skype daily, so this part wasn´t very useful for me.

Excel:
We have learnt to use excel, especially in order to create evaluation spreadsheets. I think this is very useful in general, although unfortunately, I already knew that tool as I work with it. Nonetheless, I think for most students it has been interesting.

Edmodo:
This is one of the most important resources we have worked on, in my opinion. For me, learning about this tool has been very important, as I am pretty sure I will use it. Not only in the future, in the classroom, but also in the near future, as I can use it for chess purposes too: quizzes, questions, exams, homeworks, and so on.
Through this site, we can create lots of different kind of exercises, and send them to the students, setting a deadline, and so on.


Web pages:
And for finishing this part of the course, we have learnt how to create webpages. This can be useful in the future, to have and share teaching material, but especially for our real life, as nowadays it´s important to have some basic knowledge about this technology.



I think this second part of the course has been very interesting. Maybe we could have worked more on resources like Edmodo and Modomatic, rather than Skype or Dropbox. In general, I´d rather we have spent more time on the new programs we have known, and less on the general program we already should know.

Anyway, the time spent has been very useful, and I think that, in any way, all these resources will help us in the future.
I am sure this subject is very important for future teachers, and its global philosophy has been very appropriate. In my case, I am sure I have learnt several things which I will use in the future.

The class is about how to make questions and answers with the verb "can/can´t".

FIRST in class, we would ask the students some introductory questions like:
-  Can you sing?
- Can you drive a car?
- Can you climb a mountain?

When the structure is clear, we ask the children for asking his/her partner about things he/she can do.

For finishing the lesson, we listen and sing the song on the poadcast. It can sung in several ways, like a poem or a rap, which is very motivating for kids.

The next publications are the second part of the blog for the evaluation.

First reflection

In this subject, -Digital competence and ICT competences for future teachers- we have worked on a lot of different resources that we shall use in the future in our schools.

It´s clear that in the future (and in the present!) technology is going to be decisive in education. In our case, especially, working on Primary School, where it is so important to catch the attention of the kids, technology will be a decisive tool for us in the classroom. That´s why I think it is important to take a tour to different programs and digital resources which will be useful for us in the future.

Let me mention what I think it is more important of each of that resources revised in class:

Wikis:

I think this tool is interesting for teachers, and we might use it with students from the last years of Primary School. It is very easy to work with, and allows us to share documents that can be edited from different computers, in a collaborative way. For example, we could tell the students to investigate an item -whatever- and share the information in a unique wiki document.

For younger kids, I think it won´t be that useful, as they are not so used to work with this kind of documents.

PLE:

As in the Wikis, I find PLE very useful, firstly for teachers -and people in general-, as it is a very clear way to see the different websites we usually visit at a glance, and secondly, for late-primary students, who can find in PLEs like Symbaloo a tool for organizing their things.

PLEs, despiste being very easy to use, are not that popular among average people and students. Also we learnt the difference between PLE and VLE, but I will talk about VLE in the second reflection.

BLOG:

In my case, unfortunately I didn´t find many new things as I have already had a blog before.

Also, we have had a look at different storage webs  like Google Drive and Dropbox:

Both of them are useful to save documents in the cloud, so that they are accessible from any computer with Internet access. Nonetheless, as they are actually very visible in our daily lives, almost everybody already knows them and knows how to use them.  I am not pretty sure about how to use them with kids in the future, but it´s clear that I can use them on my own.

Another day, we worked on the Microsoft Word options (images, charts, ...). As we have already worked with Word lots of years, we did have a good base of Word understanding, however we learnt an important resource:

-the correction tools: it´s important to use them properly, and we have learnt to use them in that way, so that it will be very useful in the future for us in the school.

-synonym-antonym resources are also very useful for the academic area, and will be worthy for us.

- Mendeley: this is not explained on the documents, but we have had a look in class about it, and I found the citation tools really interesting. It is very worthy, especially for the final grade essay

Another program we have learnt something about was the Power Point. The general options of this program are known for us, but what was interesting and we didn´t know about was to insert videos there. That is clearly a good tool for using in the class with the kids.

About the video-programs: we had a class of Movie Maker that was useful, but  as I have already used it, I did have some background of that. The greatest importance of this program is to know how to cut the scenes. Similar is Real Player, which is considered to be less safe so I won´t pay more attention to it.

In this program, Movie Maker (and also in the web dotsub) we have worked on creating subtitles. I think we will use this in the future, as it is an easy way to work songs with kids, or conversations in a foreign language.  

One of the most important programs we have worked on this subject is the HOT POTATOES. This is a basic program for a teacher, as we can create different kind of exercises for kids, very fastly, and very simple. We can create exercises of matching, quizes, and so on.

I consider it very important to have discovered this program, as I think I will use it lots of times in the future. It´s really comfortable being able to create a kind of exercise at home and save it on the cloud so that we can take it later from the school (on the Internet). So it´s a great tool.

Quizlet is another important web, where we can create different exercises of several types: matching, mixing, listening, and so on. This is a good tool that will be used in the future too.

Another program I have already worked before was WebQuest. It is useful for creating tests and different tasks  for the children.

Mindmap was another interesting program, but maybe for older students, in my opinion, and, of course, for teachers. It allows us to create mind maps online. Very useful.

And for finishing the tour, let´s mention the last important program we have worked on: Story Jumper. We used it for creating digital stories. Its use is quite simple, and we have learnt its general use by creating our own stories (this is one of the compulsory activities we have published on the blog).

In general, I think It has been useful to learn those many different programs, as they will be tools we will really use in the future, unlike other subjects where we have the impression that what we have learned will never be used.

If I had to improve this part of the subject I would suggest dealing less with common programs such as Word, Powerpoint, ... and focus more on programs like Hot Potatoes or Quizlet.

Cese del blog

Bueno, pues tras unos cuantos días sin postear, de descanso, me han servido para poner en orden algunos aspectos de mi vida.

Tras valorar algunas cuestiones, y principalmente, por motivos personales, dejo el blog.

No daré de baja el blog, e incluso, podría ser que tras un tiempo escribiera alguna cosa puntual, aunque no es mi idea.

Navarra acoge un Campeonato de España

Pues mañana empieza el Cto. de España de Selecciones Autonómicas. Se juega en Villava (Navarra) lo que supone sin duda una novedad para el ajedrez navarro, que raramente (por no decir nunca, al menos, que yo sepa) ha acogido un Campeonato de España.

He estado ya hoy en la sala de juego, para aguantar la pesadísima reunión de Vilas, de unos 10 minutos :P, y bueno, os puedo garantizar que la sala de juego y la de analisis no os van a defraudar (a los que juguéis).

El Hotel Villava, sede del torneo, está bastante bien, al menos, eso parece de fuera (no, no lo conocía. Ser de Pamplona no implica conocer todos los hoteles de Pamplona y la periferia...)

Navarra, por primera vez, va a presentar un equipo más que combativo, siendo esta la primera vez que alinea a los GM-MIs de la comunidad (Garbisu será el primer tablero, un servidor segundo, y De la Villa el tercero). Además contaremos con otro MF, Cortés. Y por si fuera poco, la WFM Maria Goñi ya completa la lista de titulados de Navarra :)

Hay buenos equipos, Catalunya una vez es más es candidata a ganar, aunque espero que les demos guerra ¡ea!

Memorias de Amorebieta ( II )

Tras escribir la crónica sobre el Campeonato de Euskadi, disputado en Amorebieta-Zornotza (http://mikelhuerga.blogspot.com/2009/04/memorias-de-amorebieta.html) me he percatado de que hacía bien en matizar un par de temas, y comentar alguna cosa más que, por alguna extraña razón, había olvidado relatar en la primera crónica. Fruto de esto, surge esta continuación a la crónica.

Tras leer algunas crónicas y opiniones de otros jugadores, veo que no todos están satisfechos con la organización del torneo en Zornotza.
Lejos de ser mi caso, me gustaría reiterar mi opinión: El Hotel Harrison, donde nos hospedabamos los ajedrecistas, es sensacional. Un ambiente muy acogedor, unos salones y unas habitaciones envidiables.
Por otra parte, las instalaciones del centro Celaieta (Casa de Cultura de Amorebieta, y local de juego del campeonato) son grandes, espaciosas, y en mi opinión, muy acertadas.
Además, ¿qué mejor sitio para el ajedrez que una casa de CULTURA?

Si a lo anterior, añadimos que el Hotel Harrison y el Centro Celaieta están a un minuto de distancia andando, creo que termino de explicar por qué la combinación es perfecta.

La comida de clausura fue como todos los años en Amorebieta: magnífica.
Junto con las autoridades competentes, los ajedrecistas y algunos acompañantes de los mismos, disfrutamos de la ya habitual última comida. De primero unos entrantes, despues un revuelto de setas (creo recordar xD), y algunos platos más que ya no recuerdo, además del pescado y la carne posteriores. Un postre dificil de olvidar, y para sentenciar, café y copa. Si existe un cielo, debe ser algo parecido :) Me quedo con la frase de Txus Agirretxe en su crónica: Perdí el sentido, cuando degusté el solomillo de foie gras y manzana a la pimienta rosa. Anteriormente, ibéricos, rape, langostinos y un largo etcétera.
Tras la cómida, la habitual entrega del ramo de flores a Mari Carmen Montoya, que año tras año sigue al pie del cañon como presidenta del Club Ajedrez Zornotza.

Luego ya se sabe. Despedidas por aquí, despedidas por allá... la verdad es que cuesta despedirse de un torneo así, donde el ambiente general es tan bueno.

Lamento los incidentes de los dos jugadores retirados, y la "polémica del vater", pero voy a evitar dar más chicha al tema, que la gente se pone nerviosa.

Se podrían hacer muchas bromas, como la ensalada de bonito sin bonito, o el "swis-doku", como también señala Agirretxe, pero sería largo de explicar así que, queridos leyentes, os quedáis con las ganas :P

Y para concluir, una vez más felicitar a Mario Gomez, que pese a los años, sigue con una fuerza envidiable, manteniendo su elo, y ganando campeonatos.

Por mi parte, espero volver a participar el año que viene al campeonato, que es de los más bonitos que juego en todo el año.

Memorias de Amorebieta ( I )

Pues tras 2 semanas de dura actividad ajedrecística, por fin he tenido el placer de pisar mi casita.
Jugar torneos está bien, pero como menciona la canción de Gun´s & Roses: "Home sweet home".

En el Cto. de Euskadi, disputado en Zornotza, aunque algunos lo creáis, NO nos han pagado para que regalemos el torneo a Mario (ranking 1 del torneo).
Ha sido tan vergonzoso el tema, que Mario ha ganado el torneo sin necesidad de enfrentarse al ranking 2 - un servidor-.
Y es que es lo que tiene empezar el torneo con uno de tres, que cuesta mucho alzarse a la cima.

Bueno, en resumidas cuentas:
Mario ha ganado el Cto de Euskadi una vez más, siendo esta vez con más soltura de lo normal, gracias a la inestimable ayuda de los perseguidores.
Yo acabé en el puesto 2 - mi ranking inicial- tras una remontada ganando las cuatro últimas.
El sistema FIDE no perdona, aún así, y aún con la remontada, me castiga con un -3 o -3,5 de FIDE (calculado a ojo).

Muy buen torneo de David Astasio, Iñigo Martín y David Diez, que han quedado por los puestos de arriba, y se han llevado una buena dosis de FIDE. Además David Diez creo que ha conseguido una norma de "Maestro de Amorebieta" (xD).

Muy buen torneo, buena organización, buen ambiente, y eso es importante. Así que un año más felicitar al club de Amorebieta - Zornotza por la organización del torneo, que ha sido excelente.

Donosti, Donosti...

Dificil era describir el sabor dulceagri (más sutíl, si cabe, que "agridulce") que se me ha quedado tras finalizar el XXIII Open de San Sebastian.

Tras hacer un torneo bastante bueno, con victorias de blancas ante los GMs Spassov y Tratar, y unas tablas contra Delchev, de negras, me estaba jugando la norma en la última ronda.
Por unos escasos puntos de media, no me valía con medio punto menos, y por culpa de ello, he tenido que enfrentarme a la última ronda con obligación de ganar.
Mi rival, el GM Marc Narciso, no ha mostrado en ningún momento que se conformase con tablas, sino que más bien me ha jugado una venenosa variante de doble filo.

Partida de ataques de enroques opuestos, donde el ataque de Marc ha llegado sin duda mucho antes que el mío. Me he defendido torpemente, y finalmente, con algún elegante sacrificio, se ha hecho con la victoria.

Así que aunque no me lleve norma, salgo relativamente contento, subiendo 8 puntos de elo, subiendo mi "record de fuerza de rival puntuado" a Delchev, y unos días agradables, con la peña esta de por aquí :P

El torneo ha sido en general muy extraño. Ha ganado un MI "desconocido", bastante alejado de los favoritos. Por otro lado Delchev ha sido muy poco ambicioso cuando jugaba con negras, lo que le ha limitado mucho las opciones.

Aprovecho, igualmente, para felicitar a Jaime Santos, que ha hecho un torneazo, puntuando con todo aquel que osara tener un título :) Y animar a Javier Herrera, que aunque no ha sido el torneo de su vida, seguro que tendrá muchas buenas oportunidades en el futuro ;)

Ahora estoy pasando noche en casa de Iñigo Martín y mañana para Amorebieta, al Cto. de Euskadi absoluto.
¡Vaya!
Noticias de última hora me dicen que Alejandro Franco no participará. Una pena, que debilita considerablemente la fuerza del torneo (era el ranking 2, por detrás de Mario Gomez).

Supongo que habrá retransmisión de las primeras partidas, aunque no me jugaría un brazo en ello. En cualquier caso, el año pasado hubo y creo que hace dos también.

Se echará de menos la falta de Santi, y parece que esto hace que el torneo vaya a ser más flojo que otros años aunque compensa Rafa Alvarez, ¡que vuelve al campeonato tras 6 años!

Sin nada más que decir, corto y cambio.

Paz de Ziganda 2009

Como un año más, el Paz de Ziganda, uno de los Ctos. más importantes que Navarra, ha conseguido reunir a unas cuantas decenas de ajedrecistas, tanto profesionales como aficionados, junto con los chavales del escolar, que a pesar de las adversidades, no han sido pocos.

Con una subida interesante de la cuantía de premios (1.600 euros al primero) se ha conseguido reunir a no pocos titulados, siendo mi primera sorpresa, ser el catorce del ranking, cuando yo pensaba, previamente, que estaría entre el 5 y el 10, aproximadamente.

Jugadores como Strikovic, Ubilava, Cifuentes, Ortiz, o los ya más clásicos en el torneo, De la Villa, Garbisu... al final es curioso que la gente que juega el torneo suele acabar repitiendo.

Mi torneo fue bastante normalito el primer día. Gané a la gente que tenía menos elo, perdí con Cifuentes una partida muy técnica, y en la última hice tablas con De la Villa.

Mejor me fue la mañana del domingo, que empecé con dos victorias de negras, ante Isam Ortiz y Aleksa Strikovic (Pondré diagrama).
A falta de la última ronda, ví que podía incluso ganar el torneo.
La situación era cuanto menos curiosa:
-En la mesa uno, se enfrentaban Unai Garbisu (7 ptos) contra De la Villa (6,5). En la mesa dos, Huerga (6,5) me enfrentaba a Barria (6) y los seguidores ya se encontraban por debajo de puntos.
Estaba claro que con las tablas me aseguraba un 4º puesto (600 euros), pero ganando, era posible que me llevara la txapela (y 1.600 euros). Si además tenemos en cuenta que perdiendo la partida, era muy probable que me llevara el Primer Navarro (550 euros) todo indicaba a que tenía que jugar la partida a ganar, sí o sí.

No pareció percatarse de ello Barria, que me ofreció tablas en 8 (¿¿??).
Posiblemente la oferta de tablas más absurda de todos los tiempos: yo no puedo aceptarla, y mi rival, que tiene medio punto menos que yo, optaría como mucho a los premios "de consolación", mientras que ganandome haría un fuerte spring en la clasificación final.

Jugué la partida bastante mal, me dejé fruta (algún peón) y pronto llegué a un final perdido. Barria subió hasta el puesto 4º (mira que ofrecer tablas en lugar de querer ganarme...) y yo bajé hasta el 8º o 9º, no recuerdo, aunque afortunadamente los cálculos eran correctos y pude llevarme el primer navarro.

De la Villa entabló con Garbisu, quien ganó el torneo en solitario (al perder yo mi partida). ¡Enhorabuena!

Como anecdota, creo que es la primera edición (desde que juegan GMs) en que la hegemonía navarra se hace tan fuerte, y es que en la última ronda, tres de los cuatro jugadores de las dos primeras mesas, ¡eran navarros!

Por otro lado, en el escolar, Pablo Urriza demostró solidez ante todos sus rivales, y logró llevarse el torneo con el 100% de los puntos.
Seguido de Pablo, Aimar Yeregui que hizo también un buen torneo, perdiendo sólo contra el vencedor, y venciendo a rivales que ya se van creando un hueco en el ajedrez navarro, como Pablo Sacristan o Mikel Ortega.

Back home

Pues ya estoy por casa.

Tras dormir una o dos horas la anterior noche, y tener un día de viajes de infarto (mañana os cuento los detalles) llegué hoy a Pamplona. Me fui con Ivan y Carolina al concierto de La oreja de Van Gogh (que estuvo muy bien, la verdad) en el Baluarte, y ... mañana tengo un día lleno de historias, comenzando por levantarme a las 08.30

Así que ... dejo las crónicas y demás para mañana :)
